It is hard to believe that almost 5 years have passed since Bruce’s Book 3 was published. For many, this is a lifetime and in a lifetime many tunes are written – some accepted and many others forever forgotten and left behind. What we have here is the distillate of those many hours of creativity by Bruce and several other contemporary composers.
In the years since Book 3, Bruce has established his piping credentials forever on the world scene. He now holds the Highland Society of London’s most coveted awards, the Gold medals at both the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting. In addition, Bruce has taken a leading role in piping education and pipe bands in his adopted home,
Nova Scotia.
Within these pages you will find a plethora of tunes, affording players of all levels the opportunity to learn and enjoy new music. Regardless of your stage in piping, there is something for you. These tunes have been created by pipers for pipers and it is their wish that they be played.
As a new feature with this book, the compiler has attempted to place tunes in categories for a reliable and easy method of selecting music that match the abilities of the players. Of course, the more advanced the piper, the wider selection of new tunes available. But don’t despair, there is something for everyone!
Book 4 also introduces Alex Gandy as a composer and thus, another family chapter has been written – truly in the spirit of “My Father’s Son”.
As with Bruce’s previous works, please enjoy the rewards of purchasing this book. I am positively sure it will bring you many hours of musical satisfaction.
